Reading is a central part of our week in year 1. In addition to guided reading groups three times per week and self-chosen library books once per week, there are many opportunities for the children to develop their love of reading through our class library. We have a selection of both non- fiction and fiction texts, chosen by the children and the teaching team, to support our subject enquiries and to spark the interest of class members.
Our newest section is dedicated to our Author Books. These are the stories written and illustrated by class members during “busy bee” time. At the end of each day, authors can choose to sit in the “Authors Chair” to read their story to the class. This special time of the day encourages the children to see themselves as an author and allows all children to develop skills as both the performer and audience member. Is your child an author? Please ask them- they are welcome to bring home their story to share with you, too.
