It was wonderful to see the children share their maths learning with you at Stay and Master Maths this week. We hope you enjoyed the experience too. Maths challenges using manipulatives (counters, ten frames, part, part, whole models) are an essential element of maths mastery. Manipulatives provide a concrete context for children to explore maths concepts such as place value and number composition. Making connections between the digit and it’s value is central to our maths curriculum in year 1.
We were all delighted to see snow today! As part of a year long science enquiry into seasons, we have been observing and recording the weather each day . Today, we were excited to add the first tally mark to snow weather! I wonder whether there will be any more snow before the end of term!?
