Maths
Concrete experiences support children to understand maths concepts. This week we have investigated half and quarter fractions. The children experimented to see if they could share an orange by making two equal halves.
Has Mrs Lewis cut her pizza into halves or quarters? Ask your child to share their thinking with you.
Literacy
A tatty looking bear arrived in the classroom this week, alongside a picnic basket and other items. We talked about why the bear might have a label around it’s neck and predicted who it might belong to. This inspired a discussion about the children’s bears. Some of our bears were new and some were older, just like the bear in our new literacy text: The Sea Saw.
We plan to use this text to investigate different elements of writing in the coming weeks. This week we remembered what a suffix is (a group of letters that, when added to a word, changes it’s meaning) and experimented with the suffix, “ing”. The children were challenged to add “ing” to different verbs from the book.
Can your child tell you something they enjoyed at school this week by using the suffix “ing”?
