Welcome back!

A warm welcome back to all Skipper 1 families. Our new enquiry question was introduced to the children this week: “How can we make our oceans stay amazing?” An initial brainstorm about this question showed that the children already know a little about the impact of plastic in the ocean- we look forward to discovering more, building on our knowledge of this important issue, as its themes are weaved throughout our curriculum this half term.

To kick start our enquiry, the children worked scientifically to identify different birds in our school grounds. We will be taking part in the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch between 8th January- 19th February.

Also, the Big Garden Birdwatch is from Friday 26th – Sunday 28th January 2024. Spend an hour watching the birds in your garden, from your balcony or in your local park. For more information, please follow this link: https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/big-garden-birdwatch

Back to school reminders

Reading books and reading records: Please ensure that your child returns both of these, every Monday. The successful circulation of reading books in year 1 relies on them being returned to school promptly. We have a number of outstanding books which leads to incomplete sets that need to be re purchased. There will be a charge for each outstanding book. Please check at home and ensure all books are returned by Thursday 11th January.

Toys/ precious items from home: Please support your child to keep toys and other special items at home. They are often misplaced or become an unnecessary distraction. If your child would like to share something of interest to the class that is related to our learning, that would be wonderful.
